Investigation into the Black Experience with Tintypes & Ambrotypes 8 x 10 (2017)

I am interested in history's complex relationship with the way Black bodies are portrayed in early methods of photography. By learning the process of creating modern "tintypes" and ambrotypes (glass negative or positive images), I am using the medium to create a new narrative based on the way my subjects what to present thesmselves; continuing with the work of early photographers like J. P. Ball and Arthur P. Bedou.

Technique taught by Lisa Elmaleh at CAP a part of the Penumbra Foundation in NYC.
